V-ACCESS Achievements | 100 kW Lab Test

Within the V-ACCESS project, this milestone marks the successful validation of the supercapacitor-based Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) at 100 kW at the ETEF – Energy Transformation and Electrification Facility in Trieste.

Operating on a 1050 V DC bus, the demonstrator handled load steps of 20, 50, and 100 kW, maintaining DC voltage within IEEE Std. 1709 limits throughout.

⚡ The SMES system also achieved 100 kW, with ongoing optimisation of energy discharge duration.

👉 These results confirm the design specifications for all three target vessel types.

The tests were carried out jointly by University of Trieste (UniTS) and NexTech (Fincantieri), with the technology providers ASG Superconductors and Skeleton Technologies.
